Laureus World Comeback of the Year

Kajsa Bergqvist (Sweden) – won World Championship high jump gold after serious injury

Kim Clijsters (Belgium) – winner of US Open tennis after being injured for a year

Antoine Dénériaz (France) – winner of Olympic downhill gold after serious training accident

Martina Hingis (Switzerland) – won Australian Open mixed doubles after three year absence

Jonah Lomu (New Zealand) – returned to rugby after serious kidney disorder

Colin Montgomerie (UK) – won record eighth golf European Order of Merit after slump in form

Team of the year: FC Barcelona, Croatia Davis Cup team (tennis), Liverpool, All Blacks, Renault (Formula One), San Antonio Spurs (basketball).
Newcomer of the year: Paula Creamer (golf), Lionel Messi (football), Andrew Murray (tennis), Rafael Nadal (tennis), Danica Patrick (motorsport), Ben Roethlisberger (American football).
Comeback of the year: Kajsa Bergqvist (Sweden, athletics), Kim Clijsters (Belgium, tennis), Antoine Deneriaz (France, skiing), Martina Hingis (Switzerland, tennis), Jonah Lomu (New Zealand, rugby), Colin Montgomerie (Scotland, golf).
Sportsperson of the year with a disability: Kirsten Bruhn (Germany, swimming), Zsuzsanna Krajnyak (Hungary, wheelchair fencing), Leo-Pekka Tahti (Finland, wheelchair racing), Ernst van Dyk (South Africa, wheelchair racing), Esther Vergeer (Netherlands, wheelchair tennis), Henry Wanyoike (Kenya, visually impaired running).

Winners are selected by the 42 members of the Laureus World Sports Academy, a collection of sporting greats.
